One of my Favourite Hymns is without a doubt “Guide Me, O Thou Great Redeemer.”
I am sure this is because when I was a young boy, I am not sure how old, but certainly still at Primary School and living in Hertfordshire on a farm with my family, my parents took me to see Billy Graham at a Huge Stadium in London. I do not know which one exactly but it was huge.
Billy spoke to us all, the stadium was packed and I could not see everything unless Dad lifted me up.
I listened and while I cannot remember exactly what Billy said, I felt it was a really special time.
At the end of his talk/preaching everyone sang Guide Me, O Thou Great Redeemer and I was completely overwhelmed by the beauty of what I was hearing, both in the words, the sound of band plating and the Many Thousands of peoples voices singing.
Following that experience, I was taken to Sunday School for the first time, and my Journey of Faith began.
Many years later whilst living in Gloucestershire, I was able to go to see Billy Graham again in Bristol with friend from work, and I can say that the impact of his message was as strong as I recall. He was a wonderful man who I am sure many others in the world today, like me, owe him a great debt of gratitude.

My choice would be guide us o thou great Jehovah - it was our school anthem and I sang it with the school choir at every end of term service at our church. I liked it so much it was one of our wedding hymns. It tells us to believe, to hold on, give us strength. And then the amazing ending , that verge of unknown but all will be ok. Amazing to hold on to and keep with you to give you courage.
And of course if sang with a full church and organ it sounds pretty fab too.

A wonderful hymn, and of course, the unofficial national anthem for Wales.

My Welsh heritage encourages me to share this hymn.
It is sung with great passion both in Church and secular settings, particularly when Wales is playing rugby.
Guide me O Thou great redeemer
Pilgrim through this barren land.
I am weak but Thou art mighty
Hold me with Thy powerful hand
Bread of Heaven
Feed me now and evermore
Open now the crystal fountain
Whence the healing stream doth flow
Let the fiery cloudy pillar
Lead me all my journey through
Strong deliverer
Be Thou still my strength and shield
When I tread the verge of Jordan
Bid my anxious fears subside
Death of death and hell’s destruction
Land me safe on Canaan’s side
Songs and praises
I will ever give to Thee
